The Doux Pop Lock Wash And Go Review

This is a new product by The Doux.Com.  This product boosts that it will give your hair:  shine, definition, it resists humidity but most of all "keep curls Poppin" for days!

What's in the product?  Honey, Argan Oil, Keratin Amino Acids, and Silk Amino Acids.

I picked up the product after coming across some YouTube reviews by some Natural Hair Content Creators.  I liked what I saw and decided to take a trip to Walmart to pick the product up.  There were plenty of bottles on the shelf.  My first observation was the size of the bottle.  It is 8 fluid ounces but looked quite small a bottle to tackle the task of a Wash N' Go!

This product is part of The Doux Wash And Go Collection.  The price of the bottle varies from $12.99 to $15.99 and can be found at places like Walmart and Sally's.  This product can also be purchased from The Doux's website for $14.99.

This item is described as a 5-Day Curl Forming Glaze.  On their site you will find glowing reviews of this product.  There is a review that the reviewer states that it does not work on 4C hair.

HERE IS MY REVIEW:

My hair texture is 3C and in the back of my head more like 4.  I noticed that the product is a glaze which should be a great choice for those in the 2 to 3C range.  The product is clear and has a water-like consistency, which made it hard to judge as to how much to use.  Now, one user said that followed the directions and did not get the desired results.  The directions on the bottle are:  1.  Apply to clean, wet hair.  2.  Rake or Shingle from roIot to ends.  3. Diffuse or Hood-Dry.  For best results -- DO NOT Apply Oil prior to use.

It may be the application of a leave-in also that may not render the results that one is looking for.  I did not use oil or a leave-in since most of the Content Creators were touting this product as a ONE PRODUCT Wash N' Go solution.

My difficulty with this item was that because of its watery consistency that I could not properly gauge whether I was using enough or too much of the product.  I did not Shingle my hair because I used the Bounce Curl brush and the texture of my hair is 3C and fine.  So, on average, it doesn't take much to get my hair to clump well.

The product did go on well, and I did have the normal long air-drying time that I would usually have with other products that I normally use for my Wash-N-Go.  I did have crunch, I may have used "too much" of the product but it did provide great shine and did keep down the usually "frizzy" 4 area in the back of my head.  When wearing a Wash-N-Go I will wash or "Refresh" my Wash-N-Go on the 3rd day.

Honestly, I don't see me getting the 5-day but 3 or 4 day hair is extremely possible.

MY FINAL OPINION:

Personally, I would not recommend it for texture 4A and above hair types unless you want the added shine and frizz control that this product can help with.  Secondly, as with most products, there is a learning curve when using "Pop Lock."  Economical another product may be more worth it to me because of the consistency of this product.  The size of the bottle (8 ounces) may last me three Wash-N-Go sessions.  Will I use up the bottle?  Yes.  Will I repurchase?  No.

If you used it and had different results or you liked the product, leave me a comment.

Eco Styler's Black Castor Oil and Flaxseed Gel
Image result for eco styler black castor oil
In case you haven't heard Eco Styler has come out with the much awaited new product!

Black Castor Oil and Flaxseed Gel!  You will find bloggers, YouTubers, and novices speculating on whether or not the product will live up to their expectations.  My first exposure to its arrival was from a friend on Facebook!

One YouTuber ordered hers from Canada with a shipping cost of $6.99, someone else ordered it with a shipping price of a whopping $27.99, and someone else found an online beauty supply store and was willing to spend $30 on other products just to get the $4.99 shipping!

Eco Style Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Styling Gel helps to nourish, repair and grow hair. Wheat protein strengthens and protects hair. Like all of our styling gels, it is weightless and will leave your hair with a healthy shine and superior hold.

You still have others across the States on waiting lists for the product!  Well, what a market entry!  I found people on hair blogs asking where this product can be purchased.  On blacklonghair.com one writer commented that this product has the same ingredients as the other with the exception of the two coveted ingredients “black castor oil and flaxseed!”

Here are the ingredients for your review:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Limus Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, PVP, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum), D-Limonene, Love and Pride

What's all the hype about?

Benefits of Black Castor Oil:

  • Increase hair growth.
  • Thicken hair that is starting to thin out.
  • Reduce and prevent hair damage.
  • Eliminate dry hair.
  • Make the hair fuller and shinier.
  • Deeply condition and moisturize hair and scalp.
  • Prevents dry scalp.
  • Boost your hair's overall health.

Flaxseed Oil Gel:

  • Leaves hair soft, shiny, and moisturized
  • Promotes hair growth
  • You can reuse the flax seeds
  • Cost effective (more for your money)
  • Nourishing for the hair rich in omega 3
  • Gives great curl definition
  • Gives hold with no crunch/non flaking/not drying to the hair/doesn’t cause breakage/or shedding
  • Fast drying
  • Great for wash n go’s/sleek styles/twists and twist outs and sets the twists once dry for a lovely twist out
  • Mixes well with oils/conditioners/ many products
  • All natural..organic.
  • A lot of reviews compare it to Kinky Curly’s Knot Today, but say Flax seed Gel is actually better
  • Great for all hair types

This product has re-ignited the passions of hair product junkies across America!

So, this weekend I will be at my local Target scouring the shelves!

My Hair LOVES This Stuff! Shea Moisture's Curling Gel Souffle

The warm weather is upon us and I've been experimenting with a new hair routine.  I had been previously using the Shea Moisture Peace Rose Oil Gel and Conditioner.  I liked the product but you have to use the Peace Rose regular Conditioner as a leave-in.  Anyhow, my hair has always loved the Shea Moisture Curling Soufflé Gel and I decided to try it for the warmer season since it is heavy on glycerin, by the way, which my hair simply adores.
My hair needs water at least every three days but in the warmer weather with perspiration and being outdoors more, I really prefer to rinse my hair under the shower nightly (daily).  I find that if I’m just rinsing my hair that the Shea Moisture Curling Soufflé Gel holds up very well unlike other products that tend to breakdown or needs to be reapplied after rinsing.  I also like to “oil rinse” my hair too and this product seems to compliment that regimen well.

I know, I know but that stickiness!  It makes most people feel as though they cannot “touch” their hair.  I really could not understand how Shea Moisture was still producing this product with all the initial complaints of the stickiness, the variation of consistencies from jar to jar, store to store, and seasons.  With all this against it, the product is still on the shelf with the other beloved Shea Moisture products.

I might just have a solution for you and the reason it is a stable in many naturals routines.  It works!  Hair of various textures and types love the stuff.  I also found this product to “play” well with other natural or non-natural product lines.

I purchased a jar from Walmart, note to self, don’t do that again.  I usually get mines from Walgreen.  This jar of soufflé was set like Jell-O.  I had to literally punch a hole in it.  I struggled through applying to my hair.  The third day, I took a plastic fork and “whipped” the soufflé until it became pliable and looked like beat up Jell-O!  Curls were banging, shiny, and was not drawn up like when I use a regular gel!  My hair was super soft, defined, and touchable.

Here's a few tips:

  1. Mix a “small” amount of the soufflé to your favorite styler or leave-in for a more touchable and less sticky feel.
  2. “TAP” the surface of the soufflé gel and apply directly to hair.
  3. Use “less” of the product!  Too much will cause excessive stickiness.
  4. Layer the product on in sections to gauge how much each section will need.

Finally, most naturals have attributed the “stickiness” to the agave that is in the product but I will tell you that the product “keeps” my hair “moisturized” for days!  Also, with my 3b -4a hair frizz is par for the course but the soufflé gel gives me ultimate frizz-less hair!  Love the stuff!

Splat Hair Color Chalk

Splat Hair Chalk Pastel Colors Color Highlights for the Day 3.5g $6.00http://www.splathaircolor.com/chalk.html

Simply Beautiful Pastel Colors!

Splat Hair Chalk is a beautiful way to add pastel color highlights to your hair.

The chalk slides on dry and instantly adds just the right touch of color.

We designed the compact to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. It is easy to hold onto and apply to hair. The result is soft color that is easy to brush, curl or style after application. We love this new product and are so excitied for you to try it!

Easily Washes Out With Shampoo!

You can highlight your hair with a different pastel color everyday and then easily wash it out.  Applicator Sponge

The applicator sponge was included for easier application close to your hair-line or when applying color to your braid.

Splat is a temporary hair color that can be easily washed out of your hair.  However, those whose hair is bleached may need to wash hair a couple of times to get the color completely out. However, it is an ideal color fix for those who would like to add a flair of color without committing fully to it!

This temporary color can easily be washed off your hands via soap and water but a towel or old shirt should be used when applying this product as you would with any other color product.  This product should also be applied to DRY hair which should make application a smoother process.

Since this product is water soluble, you should cover your hair while out when it is raining!

These are the directions for application:

1. Apply Splat Hair Chalk to dry hair.

2. Select a strip of hair and apply very light mist of hair spray, let dry.

4. Hold the compact lid open in the palm of your hand, the chalk base should be between your

     thumb and pointer finger.

5. Using your thumb, press hair onto chalk base and slide down hair. Repeat to increase color
     intensity.

6. Finish with hair spray to set chalk.

Also Included: 1 applicator sponge for part line and braided hair.

The color comes in a compact that is held in the palm of your hand and you glide it along the select strands of hair that you desire.  Most people than spray that section with a little hair spray to give the color an additional amount of "staying" power.  The added benefit is that you can curl, flat iron, and style as usual "without water."

The general consensus is that the color, once applied is "soft" and its reviews are glowing with praise.

This product can be found at most local Walmart Stores near you!  Send me pictures if you decided to try this product!

Happy Curls to you!

Conditioner Only 30-Day Challenge with Tresemme Naturals

$4.86 Walmart/$5.37 Amazon.com for 25 fl. ounces
When I first Big Chopped and had about an all over inch of hair on my head, grooming my tresses was easy and carefree.  At that time, however, I used a lot of gel.  I didn't mind then because I redid my hair EVERYDAY by jumpimp in the shower, applying my leave-in and then using my hands to smooth through the gel.

As my hair continued to get longer, I realized that I had to change my routine.  I than tried YouTuber MahoghanyCurls method of "only" using her conditioner as a leave-in and "styler."  My hair grew nicely and continued to retain length.

I then started writing my blog and started trying out different products.  Looking for the "Holy Grail" product that would make my daily routine and regiment simply, easy, and effective.  Until one day I realized that my hair wasn't retaining the moisture like it had been when I was using the "Only Conditioner" method.

So, I decided to do a 30-day Only Conditioner method.  I started on May 25, 2013, and I will continue until June 25, 2013.  After only a few days, my curls were shiny, bouncy, and lively!

My Regimen

  • Shampoo (no sulfate) or Co-Wash Tresses
  • Apply My Tresemme Naturals Conditioner
  • Section, Detangle, and Comb Through Section
  • Twist Each Section
  • Cover Hair for the Night with a Clear Hair Conditioning Cap
  • Hair is DAMP not DRIPPING wet!
  • In the Morning - Take Cap Off and Unloose Sections and Smooth Hair
  • Allow Hair to Dry While Preparing for Work

Second Day - Third Day:

  • Spritz Hair with PLAIN water
  • Section Hair in Large Quarters
  • Twist Hair
  • Place Cap On Hair for the Night
  • Repeat Morning Routine

Ingredients:
Water; Stearyl Alcohol; Cetyl Alcohol; Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride; Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine; Fragrance; Lauroyl Lysine; Caprylyl Glycol; Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer; Aspartic Acid; Distearyldimonium Chloride; Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) (USDA Certified Organic Ingredient); Citric Acid; Alcohol; Isopropyl Alcohol; Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (USDA Certified Organic Ingredient)

The TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner system, with natural aloe vera extract and avocado oil, moisturizes your hair to help protect from damage and breakage. Gentle cleansing and lightweight conditioning for hair that will feel healthy, manageable and smooth. Discover 10x stronger hair after just one use.* This natural conditioner has no dyes, is hypoallergenic, silicone-free and safe for color treated hair.
How it Works

The Formulation: This silicone-free conditioner is hypoallergenic, dye-free, safe for colored hair and is infused with Aloe Vera and Avocado extracts, delivering softness, strength and shine.

The Effect: Hair that's hair 10X stronger--after just one use.* This natural conditioner can protect all hair types from damage and breakage.

Recommended For: Dry Hair. All Hair Types. Straight Hair. Curly Hair. Damage Repair.

**Measured as breakage when combing vs. non-conditioning shampoo.

How to Use

  1. Start with TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo.
  2. First apply an adequate amount from mid-shaft to ends. Work anything that's left through roots.
  3. Run a wide-tooth comb or fingers from roots to ends to detangle and fully coat hair.
  4. Leave on 2-3 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Finish with your favorite TRESemmé styling aids as needed.

My hair simply LOVES the stuff!  Hair is bouncy and moisturized for the duration, until I rinse out or shampoo and reapply.  The conditioner is light enough not to weigh my 3b-4 hair type down and adds a nice shine without using gel.

Remember to always SMOOTH your product onto every strand to get even coverage and better use of the product.  I found that applying some products on DAMP hair will give you better results.

As always, feel free to leave a comment, picture, or experience in the comment box.

Lavish Curls Moisturizer -- In Review

Walgreens Price:  $10.99 for 10 ounces
Second Day Curl Refresher to Reactivate and Moisturize Curls

Formerly Called "Quench Curls"

Product Description:

Are your curls dry, dull and lifeless? Give them just what they need! daily moisture! This EXCEPTIONAL moisturizer will hydrate, condition and revive your curls, restoring their natural beauty. Consider this your "under wear for your hair." Revive your 2nd day bed head curls with Lavish Curls for a fresh new start, without recleansing!

My Review:

The funny thing about this review is that I had decided to give some products (a symptom of product junkism and needing products to review) to a co-worker who said "don't throw them out, bring them to me!"  This product was included in the batch.

However, when I got to work, I decided to revisit the product.  This week I apparently had reached another in between stage and my hair was simply rebelling!  So, I said "let me try this again!"

The problem with this product is that it doesn't come out of the bottle in a "spray" -- it's too thick -- so it SQUIRTS out!  Okay, okay, there is a solution!  I would simply spray the product in my hands then scrunch-in my hair.  However, since the bottle was less then a 1/3 full, I filled it with 2/3 of water and it spayed out of the bottle without a problem.  This worked out fine since the glycerin, if too much is used, can cause the hair to feel sticky and I could "extend" the use of the product that was left.

I sprayed the Lavish Curls onto my hair and because of the glycerin "sprayed" a mist of just plain water over the product.

Stepped out for lunch.  Curls were a "touch" sticky and I'll re-mist with plain water.  However, the fact that I already had on my hair:  Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In, Oyin's Whipped Pudding, and Reve's Lemon-scented Hair and Body Moisturizer -- Lavish Curls did its thang -- Refreshed the Curls!

Ingredients:

Water, glycerin, polysorbate 80, methylheptyl isostearate, silk amino acids, certified organic anthemis nobilis flower extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, certified organic camelllia sinensis leaf extract, citric acid, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, disodium EDTA, potassium sorbate, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, fragrance

Scent:  Fruity/Mango/Peachy

Consisentency:  Thick and almost Clear

Pros:

  •  Helps With Frizz Control
  • Adds Shine
  • Smells Nice
  • Plays Well With Other Products
  • "Organically" Natural
  • Works Best on "Fine" Hair Textures
Con:

  • Product SQUIRTS out of the Bottle Instead of Sprays
  • I've Seen It Called a "Bi-Racial" Hair Product Line
  • Contains Glycerin (for those who don't like glycerin in their products)
  • I Would Recommend More for Your 2 to 3c/4 Hair Types
  • Too Much Glycerin Can Make Hair Sticky!
My final thoughts are:

I am thinking about repurchasing and layering it with plain water.  I also realize that some times it pays to "revisit" a product.

As a Side Note:

This is the only line that I found that "sells" a "line" in Target and another on-line.  I've read that the Curls, sold in Target may not be 100% organic and may use inferior ingredients to make it "more" affordable to its customers.  I had forgotten about this until referencing the product again.  I then remember that it was for that reason alone that I ordered directly from the Curls site and the product was more.

Leave me a comment, post, picture, and/or question!  Don't forget to subscribe!

As Always,

Happy  Curls to You!
