Natural Hair Pomade Recipe

Ingredients:

2 oz. Castor Oil

2 oz. Coconut Oil

1 oz. Beeswac

1 Clean/Sterilized Container

1 Double Boiler

Instructions:

First, sterilize your container and lid with rubbing alcohol and set it aside for later use. Prepare your double boiler. If you do not own a double boiler, make one by putting a small pot on the stove with about an inch of water, then place a heat-safe bowl in the pot. Use a bowl big enough to rest in the pot without touching the water at the bottom.

You will then melt an ounce of beeswax in the bowl. I use Frontier Natural White Beeswax Beads from iHerb.com. Once the beeswax has melted completely, add your castor and coconut oils. At this time, you may want to add an essential oil, of choice.

Heat thoroughly and stir to the bottom of the bowl. Before it starts to set, transfer the warm pomade to your sterilized container, that you set aside earlier, and place it in the freezer uncovered to cool.

Side Note If the pomade cools down gradually, you will end up with granules in your pomade and you will have to warm and emulsify longer before applying.

Freezing the pomade will cause it to set up quickly and which will result in a smooth pomade.

If you like Oyin Handmade Sugar Pomade, you will LOVE this recipe. The two are extremely comparable in appearance, texture, and performance.

Oyin Handmade Sugar Pomade Recipe

You can stretch your Oyin Handmade Sugar Pomade by just adding a tablespoon of Oyin's Burnt Sugar Pomade to a bowl and melt it down with the two oils. You will get the smell you love and the same basic product at a fraction of the cost.

Hair Trends for 2014

I thought it was time to take at look at trending hair styles for the Year of 2014.  Of course, the more things change, the more they stay the same!  Let's take a look at some trending styles!

This is a sleek little side do that can be imitated easily by natural hair wearers.  You can also lightly blow dry your natural locks if you want to obtain a more smoother look.

Who doesn't like a dash of color from time to time.  This young lady has created her own spin on how to ombre your hair with a pick from a color of the rainbow.  There are several ways of achieving this look but if you are not sure on how to do so, you should consult your own colorist or stylist to get the best desired look!  A professional will be best able to steer you in the right way!

A protective style is more your choice?  This is a very stylish side twist and wrapped bun in the back!  For the smoother texture, lightly blow dry or stretch her before attempting this style.  Can also be done on wet hair that has been gel back!

A front top knot is also a winner for 2014.  This attractive style can be worn with a suit, jeans, and a wedding dress!  Simply adorn the hair with a flower, bridal rhinestones or head dress, some pearl bobby pins and this style will change according to the mood and the desire of the wearer.

This style can also be blow dried for a smoother look or you can stretch your hair for more length or wear your textured hair if you like!

This cute bow accents nicely the wearer's choice of twists that have been swept into an updo!

You are unique.  Therefore, why shouldn't the beautiful hair on your head express those sentiments.  Natural hair whether it be in its textured state or manipulated is, of course, the choice of the wearer.  However, most of all it is an expression to the world of her uniqueness!

Thanks for visiting with me again!  Looking for great things in 2014 so why not do an image makeover?  Any ideas?  Leave them in the comment box below.

Please remember to like, subscribe, comment, and share.  It's nice to have viewers but it is even better to have a chance to her from each reader as they journey along this natural hair walk!  As always, until next time!  Happy Curls to you!

INGREDIENTS:
Purified water (Aqua), Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Vitis vinfera (Grape seed) Oil, Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil, Carbomer, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Vegetable Glycerin, Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate, Xantham Gum, Fragrance.

  • Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil: Olive Oil is rich in high levels of mono-unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, which is good for hair growth. Both mono-unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E are good for moisturizing, protecting and nourishing hair. Olive oil makes hair grow stronger and its emollient properties prevent hair loss.
  • Vitis vinfera (Grapeseed) Oil: Pressed oil from the seeds of grapes, high in Vitamin E and linoleic acid. It is an antioxidant, moisturizing, and nourishing oil.
  • Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil: Oil rich in vitamin E and contains omega 3 and omega 9 fatty acids that provide nutrition for hair. It also contains Linoleic and oleic acid that helps to hydrate and moisturize hair. Helps repair damaged follicles, imparts shine, and prevents frizz and rough ends.
  • Carbomer: A gel-like thickener.
  • Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein: Emollient moisturizing protein, also adds some strength to hair.
  • Vegetable Glycerin: Vegetable-based humectant that absorbs moisture from the air.

I have had this product for a few months ago and had put it to the side because I was trying out the Alikay products for 30 days.  I plan to start using this item in the next week or so and I will return to this blog and update it!

Happy Curls to you beautiful naturals!

Flaxseed Gel Recipe

GET 10% OFF ANY product purchase at Curl Kit Shop!  Hit the link below!
http://curlkitshop.refr.cc/TR98DS7

For those of you who are looking for a natural gel or a flax seed recipe, I have listed one below that you may desire to try!

Ingredients:

1/2 a Cup of Flaxseeds
6      Cups of  Water
1/2   Tablespoon of marshmallow root for a level 3 hold (or up to 2 tablespoons for a level 10 hold)

Optional:

1/8  Teaspoon of Lemon
1/4  Teaspoon of Honey
1     Tablespoon of coconut oil (mix very, very well to avoid clumping when it is cold)
1/2   Tablespoon of Aloe Gel
1      Tea Bag of Green Tea

Directions:  (will take anywhere from 7 minutes to 12 minutes)

Information illustrated by:  http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Flaxseed-Hair-Gel

Steps

  1. 1
Assemble the "Things You'll Need". These are listed below.
    Ad
  1. 1
Soak the flaxseeds overnight. This increases gel yield, increases ease of straining, and reduces cooking time. (This step is optional.)
  2. 2
Combine the flaxseeds and water in a pan over high heat, stirring occasionally. Add Epsom salts, although this is also optional.
  3. 3
Stir gently and constantly when the mixture starts to boil. Reduce the heat to medium when the mixture's consistency turns into a thin, foamy jelly.
  4. 4
When the seeds remain suspended in the jelly instead of sinking to the bottom of the pan, turn off the heat and drain the mixture through the strainer into the bowl.
    • Note: Rinse the pot immediately, as cleaning it later will be difficult if you don't do this.
  5. 5
Add a preservative after the mixture has cooled slightly (optional). Add any desired ingredients, such as essential oils, aloe vera gel, oils, and butters.
  6. 6
Whisk the mixture to combine ingredients and break up any clumps. The gel should be about the consistency of egg whites.
  7. 7
Pour the mixture into the container. Your gel is ready to use. Store in the refrigerator for maximum shelf life.
This recipe will last approximately two weeks, if left in the refrigerator and a few more weeks if you add preservatives.

If you choose not to make your own and would like an off-the-shelf alternative, try Shea Moisture Hisbuscus and Coconut Curling Souffle!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe!  Please comment, subscribe, or leave your favorite hair recipe to be included on this blog!

Big Chop the Second Time

GET 10% OFF ANY product purchase at Curl Kit Shop!  Hit the link below!
http://curlkitshop.refr.cc/TR98DS7

I was perusing YouTube to see what was going on with the natural hair You tubers that I follow when I came across Allthatsgold and she has cut her below shoulder length hair to a beautiful tapered cut!

It seems as though those with TWAs want long hair and those that have reached shoulder length and below have built a desire for TWAs!

I too, have reached below shoulder length and I must say am and have flirted with the idea of going back to days of my TWA.  However, I keep fending off that desire by trying on a short wig until the temptation passes!

Take a look at what YouTuber Allthatsgold had to say about her Second Big Chop!

Please comment, subscribe, and let us know if you've experienced the desire to Big Chop.  Whether it be your first, second, or third time!
