Curl Keeper

30 ml ounce (Sample) $6.50
Amazon.com sells the 8 fl. ounce of the Curl Keeper for $14.78.  The biggest complaint about this product is that most people do not like the smell and causes the hair to dry hard.  The consistency of the product is watery but does contain the frizz and helps your tresses to clump better instead of giving you that Ramen Noodle look!

However, a large majority of users layer it under their gel and scrunch out the hardness later and the smell dissipates after hair has completely dried. This is one of those products that people either overboard love it or don't like it.

Product Description

Dryness causes fizziness and out of control hair. Curl keeper controls all frizz and allows you to become the master of gorgeous frizz free curls. Curl keeper is water based which means you can use it every day without product buildup. Your style will last for days as its unique formula re activates with water making curl keeper 100% effective in humid weather conditions.

DI Water, PVP/VA Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Laureth 23, Glycerin, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance, Polyquaternium 10.

Comb Curl KeeperTM through wet hair from roots to ends for an even application... FOR VERY FRIZZY HAIR, USE ADDITIONAL PRODUCT. The less movement that occurs during the first 15 minutes, the more control you will have over the frizz. Once your hair dries, you can easily soften your look by simply moving your hair around. The more you play with your hair the more volume you will achieve. Some people start appreciating their volume and curls once they have total control over the frizz. The Curl KeeperTM formula re-activates with water, so simply re-wetting frizzy areas with wet hands could get you many fantastic frizz-free days between shampoos

Curl Max Twisty Curly Spray

$5.95 - $6.99 8 ounces

After researching this product, it seems to do best or perform well on 4b to 4c hair textures.  It tends to "dry out" 3b's to 4's" hair texture when doing a "wash n' go" hairstyle.  For those users, it's best to dampen hair, apply Curl Max and then "style" hair.

Product has a great smell, sprays out of bottle well, and makes hair soft and manageable.  This product contains glycerin and when used too much can cause the hair to feel sticky.

This product is not Curly Girl "friendly."

Water (Agua), VP/ Methacrylamide/Vinyllmidazole Copolymer, Glycerine, Polysorbate 20, Argonia Spinsosa (Argon) Oil, Fragrance (Fragrancia), Disodium EDTA, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Triethanolamine, Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid, Peg-8 Dimethicone, DMDM Hydantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

For daily use. Shampoo hair and towel dry. Spray Lustrasilk Curl Max Twisty Curly Spray evenly from roots to ends. Scrunch hair and air dry or blow dry with a diffuser if necessary.

Product Description

Lustrasilk Curl Max Twisty Curly Spray quickly activates spiral curls with no frizz. Curl Max, Twisty Curly Spray is enriched with Argan Oil and is designed to quickly activate spiral curls in naturally curly, wavy or permed hair. This non-sticky, alcohol-free spray produces curls you can count on while the lightweight, anti-frizz formula gives your hair a lasting, glossy shimmer. Let the beauty of your hair shine through with Lustrasilk!

Caviar Curls Velvet Leave-In Detangler

UPDATED:  (August 10, 2013)

This item can now be purchased on Etsy.com at http://www.etsy.com/listing/153965324/caviar-curls-velvet-leave-in-detangler.  Shipping is:  $5.75

This product is very close to the texture of Kinky Curly Knot Today.  The product could not be found on the web and it's website is listed as caviarcurls.com which doesn't come up in Google or Bing.

This creamy herbal conditioner is enriched with botanical extracts and organic ingredients to smooth the cuticles and to remove knots, snags, and tangles for all types of hair.

Ingredients:  Aqueous (water aqua purificada, purified), organic mango extract, organic marshmallow root, organic goji extract, chamomile extract, nettles extract, cetyl alcohol,*behentrimonium methosulfate, citric acid.  **dehydroacetic acid (and) benzyl alcohol, natural fragrance.

**behentriminium methosulfate is "NOT" a sulfate.  It is made from non-genectically modified (g)rapeseed oil. It is a scientifically advanced ingredient.  Considered the mildest hair detangling and thickening ingredient available.

Product has no parabens, glycerin, protein, silicone, or sulfates!

Oyin Hair Dew
2 ounce (mini) $4.00

This product gets RAVE reviews from users across the natural hair community.  It is a lotion type of leave-in that goes on smoothly and maintains that same sugary chocolate pudding smell.

Ingredients: purified water, castor oil, olive oil, organic aloe vera gel, behentrimonium methosulfate (emulsifier), coconut oil, olive squalane, optiphen (preservative), cetyl alcohol, fragrance, and love!

Pooka Pure & Simple: Lemon-Aide Hand Exfoliator

4 ounces $10
Smells too delicious to put in your skin but their motto is:  Pooka products are "something good for your skin to eat!"

Lemon-Aide Hand Exfoliator

This wonderful polish is the perfect treatment to keep hands soft, smooth and young! Also great to leave in the kitchen, makes a great exfoliator and odor eliminator when preparing foods like onions or fish.

Wash your hands then take a scoop of Lemon-Aide and massage hands then rinse and enjoy soft, smooth hands.

Ingredients:  Organic cane sugar, olive oil, lemon essential oil blend and vitamin e

Itiba Papaya Body Lotion

I liked the tropical and earthy look of the site.  It was inviting and beautifully soothing.  The site even offers to give you a tour of the Island!

An 8 fl ounce bottle of the lotion costs $12.60 to ship to my address cost an additional $13.50 for a total cost of $26.10!  Just no an expense I would incur unless sharing the shipping cost with someone else.

However, I found another site that sells the product called John Paul Selects $14.00 for 8 ounces and here are the shipping costs:

USPS Standard Post$6.85
USPS Priority Mail$6.95
UPS Ground$10.76
UPS 2nd Day Air$25.74

From their website:

Sweet, green, juicy this is a true prize of the Caribbean! A wonderful, Caribbean fragrance that is sure to satiate your senses!

100% Aloe Vera based. Jojoba, Avocado and Rice Bran oils along with dL Panthenol help to soften and moisturize your skin. A little is all that is required of this lotion. Sinks in quickly and does not leave any greasy after feel!

INGREDIENTS: Aloe Vera Juice, Avocado Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Jojoba Oil, stearic acid, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth 20, Fragrance, dL Panthenol, preservative

Made in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands

Another successful Curl Kit!  I, of course, liked the Oyin Hair Dew -- would have liked a FULL-SIZE container but it was a nice size sample.

So far, I'm really liking the Caviar Curls Velvet Leave-In Conditioner.  I did leave a posted question on the Curl Kit Face Book Page asking where this product can be purchased.  Will update this post with their response!

I'm in love with the Pooka Lemon-Aide!  I just open the jar to smell it!  Simply divine!  (smiling!)

The Itiba smells like the tropics and is worth the purchase if it can be bought at a cheaper shipping cost.

The Lustrasilk, for me, will be a no go.  Smells nice.  However, I'm a wash n' go wearer and this product will find little use in my regimen since I rarely do twists or braid-outs.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my Review.  Please, comment and subscribe!

Conditioner Only 30-Day Challenge with Tresemme Naturals

$4.86 Walmart/$5.37 Amazon.com for 25 fl. ounces
When I first Big Chopped and had about an all over inch of hair on my head, grooming my tresses was easy and carefree.  At that time, however, I used a lot of gel.  I didn't mind then because I redid my hair EVERYDAY by jumpimp in the shower, applying my leave-in and then using my hands to smooth through the gel.

As my hair continued to get longer, I realized that I had to change my routine.  I than tried YouTuber MahoghanyCurls method of "only" using her conditioner as a leave-in and "styler."  My hair grew nicely and continued to retain length.

I then started writing my blog and started trying out different products.  Looking for the "Holy Grail" product that would make my daily routine and regiment simply, easy, and effective.  Until one day I realized that my hair wasn't retaining the moisture like it had been when I was using the "Only Conditioner" method.

So, I decided to do a 30-day Only Conditioner method.  I started on May 25, 2013, and I will continue until June 25, 2013.  After only a few days, my curls were shiny, bouncy, and lively!

My Regimen

  • Shampoo (no sulfate) or Co-Wash Tresses
  • Apply My Tresemme Naturals Conditioner
  • Section, Detangle, and Comb Through Section
  • Twist Each Section
  • Cover Hair for the Night with a Clear Hair Conditioning Cap
  • Hair is DAMP not DRIPPING wet!
  • In the Morning - Take Cap Off and Unloose Sections and Smooth Hair
  • Allow Hair to Dry While Preparing for Work

Second Day - Third Day:

  • Spritz Hair with PLAIN water
  • Section Hair in Large Quarters
  • Twist Hair
  • Place Cap On Hair for the Night
  • Repeat Morning Routine

Water; Stearyl Alcohol; Cetyl Alcohol; Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride; Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine; Fragrance; Lauroyl Lysine; Caprylyl Glycol; Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer; Aspartic Acid; Distearyldimonium Chloride; Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) (USDA Certified Organic Ingredient); Citric Acid; Alcohol; Isopropyl Alcohol; Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (USDA Certified Organic Ingredient)

The TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner system, with natural aloe vera extract and avocado oil, moisturizes your hair to help protect from damage and breakage. Gentle cleansing and lightweight conditioning for hair that will feel healthy, manageable and smooth. Discover 10x stronger hair after just one use.* This natural conditioner has no dyes, is hypoallergenic, silicone-free and safe for color treated hair.
How it Works

The Formulation: This silicone-free conditioner is hypoallergenic, dye-free, safe for colored hair and is infused with Aloe Vera and Avocado extracts, delivering softness, strength and shine.

The Effect: Hair that's hair 10X stronger--after just one use.* This natural conditioner can protect all hair types from damage and breakage.

Recommended For: Dry Hair. All Hair Types. Straight Hair. Curly Hair. Damage Repair.

**Measured as breakage when combing vs. non-conditioning shampoo.

How to Use

  1. Start with TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo.
  2. First apply an adequate amount from mid-shaft to ends. Work anything that's left through roots.
  3. Run a wide-tooth comb or fingers from roots to ends to detangle and fully coat hair.
  4. Leave on 2-3 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Finish with your favorite TRESemmé styling aids as needed.

My hair simply LOVES the stuff!  Hair is bouncy and moisturized for the duration, until I rinse out or shampoo and reapply.  The conditioner is light enough not to weigh my 3b-4 hair type down and adds a nice shine without using gel.

Remember to always SMOOTH your product onto every strand to get even coverage and better use of the product.  I found that applying some products on DAMP hair will give you better results.

As always, feel free to leave a comment, picture, or experience in the comment box.

Product Swapping

Can your bathroom cabinet be mistaken for a Walmart, Target, or Walgreens hair product shelf?  That may signify that you have a problem with perusing the hair product shelves once to often!

Who isn't guilty of that?  Wanting to try out the latest product that has hit the market. Or, a YouTube.com hair guru that has shared another wonderful product that they are using which yielded great results!  There is product temptation all around us!

One of my solutions has been to swap products with a natural haired coworker!  We have different textures of hair.  I'm 3b/c-4 and she is 4a-b.  We discuss with each other what products that we have that hasn't worked for us and then ask whether the other is interested in trying it out.  We don't charge each other, it is a free and easy exchange and a way to keep our cabinets from product overload!

As Always,

Happy Curls to You!
