The Doux Pop Lock Wash And Go Review

This is a new product by The Doux.Com.  This product boosts that it will give your hair:  shine, definition, it resists humidity but most of all "keep curls Poppin" for days!

What's in the product?  Honey, Argan Oil, Keratin Amino Acids, and Silk Amino Acids.

I picked up the product after coming across some YouTube reviews by some Natural Hair Content Creators.  I liked what I saw and decided to take a trip to Walmart to pick the product up.  There were plenty of bottles on the shelf.  My first observation was the size of the bottle.  It is 8 fluid ounces but looked quite small a bottle to tackle the task of a Wash N' Go!

This product is part of The Doux Wash And Go Collection.  The price of the bottle varies from $12.99 to $15.99 and can be found at places like Walmart and Sally's.  This product can also be purchased from The Doux's website for $14.99.

This item is described as a 5-Day Curl Forming Glaze.  On their site you will find glowing reviews of this product.  There is a review that the reviewer states that it does not work on 4C hair.

HERE IS MY REVIEW:

My hair texture is 3C and in the back of my head more like 4.  I noticed that the product is a glaze which should be a great choice for those in the 2 to 3C range.  The product is clear and has a water-like consistency, which made it hard to judge as to how much to use.  Now, one user said that followed the directions and did not get the desired results.  The directions on the bottle are:  1.  Apply to clean, wet hair.  2.  Rake or Shingle from roIot to ends.  3. Diffuse or Hood-Dry.  For best results -- DO NOT Apply Oil prior to use.

It may be the application of a leave-in also that may not render the results that one is looking for.  I did not use oil or a leave-in since most of the Content Creators were touting this product as a ONE PRODUCT Wash N' Go solution.

My difficulty with this item was that because of its watery consistency that I could not properly gauge whether I was using enough or too much of the product.  I did not Shingle my hair because I used the Bounce Curl brush and the texture of my hair is 3C and fine.  So, on average, it doesn't take much to get my hair to clump well.

The product did go on well, and I did have the normal long air-drying time that I would usually have with other products that I normally use for my Wash-N-Go.  I did have crunch, I may have used "too much" of the product but it did provide great shine and did keep down the usually "frizzy" 4 area in the back of my head.  When wearing a Wash-N-Go I will wash or "Refresh" my Wash-N-Go on the 3rd day.

Honestly, I don't see me getting the 5-day but 3 or 4 day hair is extremely possible.

MY FINAL OPINION:

Personally, I would not recommend it for texture 4A and above hair types unless you want the added shine and frizz control that this product can help with.  Secondly, as with most products, there is a learning curve when using "Pop Lock."  Economical another product may be more worth it to me because of the consistency of this product.  The size of the bottle (8 ounces) may last me three Wash-N-Go sessions.  Will I use up the bottle?  Yes.  Will I repurchase?  No.

If you used it and had different results or you liked the product, leave me a comment.

Moisturized Hair

The beginning of healthy and luscious curls starts when you hydrate from the inside out!

Below are key in achieving moisturized and strong locks.

Number 1 on our list is, of course, Water!

Water

In order

  • Essential Fatty Acids – Eating foods that contain essential fatty acids (EFA’s) can help combat dryness and brittleness. EFA’s are found in fish such as sardines, tuna, and salmon.  Also, you can get a good dose of EFA’s by eating nuts, olives, avocados and flaxseed.  HAIRFINITY Intense Shine EFA Booster gives you hair a boost of Omega 6, an essential fatty acid for shinier, softer-looking hair.*
  • Water – While everyone knows that drinking water is important for overall health, you may not know that dehydration can lead to dry, brittle hair.  Healthy hydrated hair requires drinking about 6 to 8 cups of water each day. Not drinking enough water will cause your hair and skin to become dry.
  • Silica – this mineral found in foods such as asparagus and cucumbers can help improve your hair’s strength and shine.  Healthy hair is naturally more hydrated.  So, incorporating this mineral in your diet can help ease dryness. One source of silica is Horsetail Extract, which is an ingredient in HAIRFINITY Healthy Hair Vitamins.
  • Protein – Your hair is made of keratin protein so it only makes sense that you need to include an adequate amount of protein in your diet for healthy hair.  Hair that lacks the vital amino acids that come from protein is weak, brittle, and dry.  While meat is the most common source of protein, foods such as eggs and beans also provide your hair with this essential nutrient.  You can also use a supplement such as HAIRFINITY Volume Builder Amino Acid Booster to make sure your hair is getting these vital amino acids.
  • Vitamins  –  Healthy hydrated hair needs to be properly nourished from the inside.  Nutrients such as Vitamin A, B-vitamins, and Vitamin C, Folic Acid, and MSM are also very important for hair.  You can find these hair specific nutrients fruits, grains, and green, leafy vegetables as well as hair vitamins such as HAIRFINITY Healthy Hair Vitamins.

HYDRATING YOUR HAIR FROM THE OUTSIDE:

  • Avoid the “Awful 8” Ingredients: Silicones, sulfates, mineral oils/petroleum, parabens, phthalates, PEG, propylene glycol, chlorine and formaldehyde. While these harsh ingredients are found in many popular hair products, they can dry your hair out and cause breakage. HAIRFINITY Hair Care Products contain only pure, gentle ingredients that work with your hair, not against it. That means our formulas never contain what we call “The Awful 8.”
  • Keep it Cool – Avoid washing your hair with hot water as it can strip your hair of its natural oils and moisture, causing it to become dull and dry.
  • Ditch the Damage. One of the major causes of dry hair is damage to the protective outer layer. Once this layer is damaged, it allows moisture to escape and your hair to dry out. The main culprits are chemical treatments (ie color, perms, and relaxers) and heat treatments (ie blow drying and straightening). Try out some heat-free styles, try rollers instead of the curling iron. Use a thermal product like HAIRFINITY Revitalizing Leave In Conditoner that protects your hair from heat up to 450 degrees when you do heat style your hair.
  • Oil it Up. When we think of oil, we think of moisture.  However, oil is best used to seal in moisture and protect your hair from the elements.  While your scalp naturally produces oil, it is sometimes not enough for what we put our hair through daily. Try using a natural product like HAIRFINITY Nourishing Botanical Oil which increases shine and elasticity, and infuses your hair with moisture while reducing breakage up to 95%. If you are following all of the steps above, then your hair should be properly hydrated and using an oil to seal it will help keep it that way. Remember – avoid popular “silicone” based oils as they will only dry your hair out more.

Aussie Heat Protectant

My granddaughter was scheduled to have her hair braided and that put me in search of a heat protectant for her natural hair.
I ended up in Walmart and the first item I saw in the area of heat protectants was Aussie.
I had never used any Aussie products, so this was my first experience with this line. It was the bright purple packaging that really caught my attention. It had a great price point of $4.97 so I took the item to the register and paid for it and took it home.
I really didn’t know what to expect from the product because I haven’t used heat on either of our hair for over a decade.
I section her hair in approximately eight sections and sprayed each section as I blowed dried her hair. It had a light floral fragrance, sprayed easily, and was not too oily.
I was pleased with the outcome of the usage of this product on her 4a, 4b hair. Now, the hair was not bone straight but made her tresses more manageable and the right texture for braiding.
If you would like to share your experience with this product, feel free to leave a comment below.

RICE WATER

"Rice water has amazing hair and skin benefits. A recent research has shown that rice water exhibit hair care effects, such as decreasing surface friction and improving hair elasticity. Rice water has inositol, a carbohydrate, that can repair damaged hair, as well as protect it from damage. Specialized imaging technique shows that inositol stays inside the hair even after rinsing, offering continuing hair protection and beautifying effects.

So, Rinsing or washing your hair with rice water has been reported to improve manageability and protect it from future damage. In addition, the amino acids in the rice water strengthen the hair roots, add volume and sheen and make hair silky smooth." - HairBuddha

So, I took the challenge!

I started by placing an handful of uncooked rice, rinsing it first, in a container with a lid with clean cool water.  I leave it overnight.  You will see that the water is cloudy and if you have not added an orange peel, aloe vera juice or some other agent will you notice a fermented smell.  It really doesn't bother me because I know that I will be rinsing it after applying it to my tresses.

You can apply the rice water via a bottle with a sprayer, pour from a bottle with a cap, and/or pour from the jar that the rice water fermented in.

I usually wash my hair and rinse it with warm water, then I take the bottle or jar and pour the water down my tresses.  Other times, I will spray my hair with the rice water and then rinse it.  I use the rice water every time I shampoo my hair, which is usually once a week.

What I have noticed has been:

  • Stronger Strands
  • Fewer Fairy and/or Single Strand Knots
  • Shinier Hair
  • Longer Length
I have decided to continue with the rice water because of the noticeable change in my tresses!

Natural Hair, Winter Blues!

Natural Hair Winter Blues!

Every winter we are faced with dry tresses due to the frigid winds of this season.  We often combat the ravages of the winter season with our satin-lined hats, caps, and scarves to guard our hair from the elements.

Why is the Winter so Rough for our natural hair?  Because it sucks the moisture right out of our tresses!  That dryness than causes our already fragile strands to tangle.  Tangles create knots and knots slows down the washing and styling processes.

My major issue for this season is that I am a primarily "Wash And Go" lady and until this year, I was able to maneuver the winter season fairly well but this season my "Wash And Go" wreaked havoc on my work scheduled.

This caused me to look primarily at protective styling as an option, especially for Monday through Friday.  I then added wigs of various styling options and colors into my arsenal.  This allowed me to keep my hair braided, moisturized, and protected until the Spring.

What is even more exciting is that with all the new "natural" hair options from both European and African American companies have allowed us to not skip a beat in keeping our natural hair styling.

Over the next weeks, we will be looking at some of these options.

As usual, leave a comment and/or a suggestion below!

Until next time, Happy Curls to You!

Eco Style Olive Oil , Shea Butter, Black Castor Oil

Eco Style Gold Gel 16-Ounce Olive Oil & Shea Butter (Yellow) & Black Castor Oil & Flaxseed

Hello ladies, Eco Style has another new product!  Eco Style Olive Oil, Shea Butter, and Black Castor Oil gel.

I went to my local Beauty Supply Store to pick up some Eco Style Black Castor Oil and Flaxseed gel when I said the shelves were filled with this gold container.  So, of course, I reached for the jar and started to read it!

A one stop product for Wash N Gos!  At first I put the jar back on the shelve to get my usual but the one product only intrigued me.  I picked up the jar and off to the counter I went.

My Experience:

I washed my hair with African Soap Peppermint shampoo, applied a wash out conditioner, I applied a coconut leave-in and shingled the Eco Style Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Black Castor Oil gel.

What I Notice:

  • The flip-top jar was convenient and  I liked.
  • The fragrance of the gel was soft and floral
  • The gel was "gold" and had a glimmer shine to the gel.
  • This gel felt thicker than the Olive Oil version and similar to the Black Castor Oil and Flaxseed version.
  • This gel also seem to "weigh" hair more than the Olive Oil and Castor Oil/Flaxseed version .
  • I was surprised that this gel dried faster than the other two versions also.
  • Eco Style Gold has a "10" hold.
  • Hair was not hard to the touch when dried.
What I liked about the product:

I didn't get that jheri curl look or texture when my hair dried.

Happy Curls to You!

Color Purple?

Image result for purple natural hair
I've been wanting to dye my natural tresses to purple.  Why you may ask?  I love the color purple!  And everytime I see a purple haze of natural hair, it stops me in my tracks!  Why haven't you done so?  Bleaching!  To get this rich, royal color I would need to bleach my hair and I love the fact that my hair is bouncy and healthy.

I keep weighing the odds.  Do I sacrifice my desire to join ranks with all the beautiful purple-haired naturals are simply stand on the side lines and watch the purple haze go by?

Pros

  • Use the Coconut-Bleaching Method for Less Damage to Your Tresses
  • Use Manic Panic's Violet or Lavender in Conditioner to Maintain Your Puple Color
  • Do a Weekly Protein Treatment to Fill in Holes in Strands Left by Bleaching
  • Color is a Confidence Booster!
  • With New Hair Color, the Clothing Color Choices Will Look Different
Image result for purple natural hairMethod:

The night before your bleaching appointment, take pure, unrefined coconut oil and saturate your strands completely, from root to tip. Cover up with a shower cap, and leave in the oil overnight. The next day, bleach (or go to a professional stylist) with the oil still in your hair. The oil acts in the same way that your hair's natural oils do, protecting the tresses and scalp from the harmful effects of bleach.

Cons:

  • Avoid Sulfate Shampoos -- They strip/fade the color from tresses
  • Bleaching Tresses Is Stressful -- You will need to Deep Condition More Often

Saying yes to purple...tempting it is!  Still on the fence but happily watching the Purple Divas walk by!

TRUE by Made Beautiful Hair Products

Image result for true hair products reviews

Hello Chicas!

Back with a new product review!

Image result for true hair hydrating butter

Hydrating Hair Butter

Ingredients:  Water (Aqua), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Ceteareth-20, Glyceryl Dilaurate, Fragrance (Parfum), Butryospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Oil, Honey, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Beta-Carotene

I was at Walgreens to fill an prescription when I took the route through the ethnic hair care line aisle when I spotted this space on the shelf that reflected a beach-like ambiance.  I stopped and realized that I had never seen this line called "True" before.

It's packaging is clean, pure, and refreshing reflecting the theme of the Made Beautiful line.

I first acquired the Hydrating Hair Butter and took it home.  Unfair to the line, I spread the butter on my hands and applied it over the Carol's Daughter Hair Milk and the Olive Oil Ecostyler gel.  I can say that it "played" well and I enjoyed the results.

As a reference point, I am a 3c with 4a coiling sections and low porosity hair.  The Hydrating Butter is creamy and texture is like pudding, smells like mango and the tropics.  I did as directed on the jar.  I took out a quarter-size amount, rubbed the product between my hands and smooshed into the sections of my hair then pony-pineapple three-sections but needed to do six sections to alleviate having to maneuver parting/sectioning issues in the morning.  Placed on my satin scarf and that was my nighttime routine.

Got up in the morning, misted with water, let set for 20 minutes, shook hair, shaped hair, and was ready for work!

So, I decided to try it again after shampooing my hair, applying Camille Rose's Hair Milk and again the True Hydrating Hair Butter "played" well and I ended up with great results.  Soft, shiny, and moisturized hair.

The True by Made Beautiful Line up is as follows:

– Shampoo
– Co-wash
– Hair Mask
– Leave-in
– Stylers ( gel like styler, and hair butter)
– Curl refresher spray

Pros:
  • Fresh Packaging of Line
  • Tropical Smell is delightful -- Not too strong
  • Accessibility is great (Walgreens, Sally, Made Beautiful site on-line)
  • Price Range $9.99 to $12.99
  • Only Need a Little
  • Plays well with other Products that I Use
  • Hair Typing Usage is Listed on the Jars/Containers
Cons:
  • Curl Refresher must be used sparingly -- Can get "sticky"
  • Styler -  Has a very "soft" hold -- I use one of my gels to "support" -- Still evaluating as to whether or not I will repurchase.  Will do a review later.
I was sitting at my desk today when a coworker came over and she said "smells like flowers!" I said:  "It's my hair products!"  She said:  "I like!"

For convenience of purchasing their items they have put the hair typing numbers along the side of the containers.  I will be giving my opinion on the other products in this line as I continue to use them.

I say that this line is off to a great start!

Until next time!  Happy Curls to You!

Eco Styler's Black Castor Oil and Flaxseed Gel
Image result for eco styler black castor oil
In case you haven't heard Eco Styler has come out with the much awaited new product!

Black Castor Oil and Flaxseed Gel!  You will find bloggers, YouTubers, and novices speculating on whether or not the product will live up to their expectations.  My first exposure to its arrival was from a friend on Facebook!

One YouTuber ordered hers from Canada with a shipping cost of $6.99, someone else ordered it with a shipping price of a whopping $27.99, and someone else found an online beauty supply store and was willing to spend $30 on other products just to get the $4.99 shipping!

Eco Style Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Styling Gel helps to nourish, repair and grow hair. Wheat protein strengthens and protects hair. Like all of our styling gels, it is weightless and will leave your hair with a healthy shine and superior hold.

You still have others across the States on waiting lists for the product!  Well, what a market entry!  I found people on hair blogs asking where this product can be purchased.  On blacklonghair.com one writer commented that this product has the same ingredients as the other with the exception of the two coveted ingredients “black castor oil and flaxseed!”

Here are the ingredients for your review:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Limus Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, PVP, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum), D-Limonene, Love and Pride

What's all the hype about?

Benefits of Black Castor Oil:

  • Increase hair growth.
  • Thicken hair that is starting to thin out.
  • Reduce and prevent hair damage.
  • Eliminate dry hair.
  • Make the hair fuller and shinier.
  • Deeply condition and moisturize hair and scalp.
  • Prevents dry scalp.
  • Boost your hair's overall health.

Flaxseed Oil Gel:

  • Leaves hair soft, shiny, and moisturized
  • Promotes hair growth
  • You can reuse the flax seeds
  • Cost effective (more for your money)
  • Nourishing for the hair rich in omega 3
  • Gives great curl definition
  • Gives hold with no crunch/non flaking/not drying to the hair/doesn’t cause breakage/or shedding
  • Fast drying
  • Great for wash n go’s/sleek styles/twists and twist outs and sets the twists once dry for a lovely twist out
  • Mixes well with oils/conditioners/ many products
  • All natural..organic.
  • A lot of reviews compare it to Kinky Curly’s Knot Today, but say Flax seed Gel is actually better
  • Great for all hair types

This product has re-ignited the passions of hair product junkies across America!

So, this weekend I will be at my local Target scouring the shelves!

Don’t forget, as always, leave your comments or thoughts below!

Happy Curls to You!

Those In Between Stages of Hair Growth -- Hair Purgatory

Image result for in between stage of natural hair

pretty teeny weeny Afro (TWA) is no longer teeny enough to highlight your head shape, but not long enough to hang even partially south. It's still too short for that but it may be flopping out in other more crazy ways.

Beyond the BC hair purgatory happened to me several times over many years. It was a tough time for me -- too long for the cute shape anchored by my scalp. Too short for the hang. Doing the north, east and west, but definitely no south. WTF was it doing?
  • not long enough to hang but not short enough to behave.
  • not long enough to pull back into a bun.
I was in this stage several times in my life and each time it felt like I was unanchored and could not see the far shore. No matter how much I patted it down it refused to behave like a TWA. It also refused to behave like it wanted to drop and hang. I went through several cycles of growing it to a certain length, losing hope, and BC'ing again. And it all happened before the curly hair product revolution I saw happen after Y2K.
