I have been wanting to dye my natural tresses purple for a while now. Why, you may ask? Because I absolutely love the color purple! Every time I see a beautiful naturalista rocking shades of violet, plum, or lavender, I am instantly drawn in. Purple hair is bold, fun, feminine, and full of personality. But there is one major issue standing in my way: Bleaching. To achieve that rich, royal purple color on dark natural hair, bleaching is often necessary. And honestly, that is the part that gives me pause. I love the fact that my natural hair is healthy, bouncy, and full of life. It is that awkward, frustrating, in-between place after the big chop — when your teeny weeny afro (TWA) is no longer quite so teeny, but your hair still is not long enough to behave the way you want it to. It is no longer short enough to simply highlight the shape of your head in that neat, cute little way. But it is also not long enough to hang, drop, or swing with ease.
